Anthropic has added Smart Reports to Claude Enterprise. The tool lets a manager pick a team, a date range of up to the last 28 days and one or more Claude products. Claude then reads a sample of that team's transcripts and summarises the work. The feature groups the conversations into workstreams and types of output, attaches spend to each group, and writes up friction points, such as a connector that was never set up or a tool that failed. The report also sorts sessions into a category of "inefficiencies," which counts sessions that produced nothing usable and sessions classified as personal or off-topic.

The feature is off by default and must be switched on in organisation settings by an Owner or Primary Owner. Reports cost nothing up to ten per organisation per month, and reports that fail do not count toward that limit. They take a few hours to generate and are shared through a link that only the recipients and admins can open. Each report is built from interactive charts. Clicking a workstream opens its sessions, ranked by cost, each with a one-paragraph summary, the product used, the date and the output type. Organisations that use customer-managed encryption keys, a HIPAA configuration or a hybrid deployment cannot use the feature. Where zero data retention is enabled for Claude Code, Claude Code sessions are left out.

Sessions Claude flags as touching restricted topics, including personal conversations, feed only aggregate figures and show no summary. Those restricted topics include health, union activity, pay discussions and complaints about harassment. Custom questions cannot be written about them either. An admin can also turn on an "Allow attribution to individual users" setting. When it is on, a viewer can reveal member names and session IDs through an in-report control, and each reveal is logged. Anthropic's spokesperson told Mashable that smart reports do not summarise off-topic sessions or identify them by name. The spokesperson also said that, when the individual-level option is enabled, a report can break down on-topic sessions by what each employee worked on. Mashable reported that when it asked for clarification, Anthropic pointed it back to the support page.

Anthropic's help documentation states the limits of the tool in plain terms. Smart reports "aren't designed and should not be used for evaluating individual performance or making employment decisions." The product announcement says the same and describes the reports as a way to understand adoption and plan investment. Mashable, whose headline framed the feature as telling bosses when workers are "off-topic," noted that the company's own documentation sets that boundary. It placed the feature against a recent survey finding that one in four U.S. managers use AI for layoff decisions "often or all the time." The documents do not say how the company would detect misuse of the feature by a manager who ignores that rule.

The announcement also presents the reports as a route to spreading productive habits. Each report includes a list of recommendations, including recurring workflows to turn into shared skills and rules to add to a code repository. Admins with billing permission can raise a person's spend limit from the report when a limit is holding them back. Anthropic's announcement carried quotes from customers including DoorDash and Docusign, and it said pooled group budgets and in-app surveys were launching alongside the reports. Those surveys ask employees what they have done with Claude and what would break if access were lost, and Anthropic treats them as customer data.

## Why it matters

Companies can now monitor employee AI use in detail, which raises privacy and works-council questions alongside the productivity gains.

## What you can do

Check employee notification and privacy policies before enabling chat-level reporting for managers.
